Okay Now... Seriously

Come out!

I have a non-stress test scheduled for Tuesday, and really thought that this baby would be out of me by then. So far, no indications that he has any intention of going anywhere soon. Yesterday, I tried dancing around the living room for about 20 minutes to everything from merengue music to hip-hop beats. Some contractions ensued, but then calmed right back down. And... I think all that action rocked Baby to sleep.

So, non-stress-test on Tuesday, followed by my regular OB appointment. And the induction has been scheduled already (a fact which, originally, made me scoff in disbelief and disdain). Well, at least, I have a limited time to continue to be pregnant. I was just hoping to avoid the intervention because I wanted to have a prompt and obedient baby. I mean, I can't very well say, "Do you want me to pull this belly over?! Then, I suggest you start listening to me, Mister!"

I felt the same way when I went 7 days post date w/ Pebbles. I was like, that's it, I have to get induced. But you have lots of days between now and your induction date, and the odds are increasing every single day that you will naturally start labor.

Actually, average gestation for a first-time mom is just over 41 weeks.

If you get to a day or so before your scheduled induction, by all means try stuff at home. Natural techniques are gentler than what they may lay on you at the hospital! Nipple stimulation is proven to work, and I'll vouch for the having sex thing. Worked for me twice.

EJ was late, too---due on the 15, born on the 21st. I think our non-stress test was the 19th, followed by an OB appointment? I was told at that appointment that I was only a fingertip dilated with no signs of progression, and I was in labor the next day, arriving at the hospital within 30 ours of that "no progression" diagnosis at 7 cm dilated.

So, for your sake, I hope things move along quickly, but don't be too concerned if outward signs don't indicate labor. When the baby wants out, the baby wants out, and it can move fast. Enjoy the cookies and juice at the test.

BTW, why don't you have him on Tuesday? That's my birthday, and I can officially testify that it is awesome. :)

i'm with carrie...try the at-home stuff if you want. but...and i'm definitely pulling for you to go into labor on your own...if you don't go into labor before your scheduled induction and you are induced, it's not the end of the world. i've had two inductions, and i know it's not ideal, but i have two healthy kids, so it's all good.

but here's to hoping the little man listens up and gets out of there soon!!
