Jesus Age

Yesterday was my birthday. I turned Jesus Age.

And if that's not enough religion talk for you, get this! On my actual birthday, I got to see the fourteenth Dalai Lama speak about Positive Change Beginning with Inner Happiness.
dalailama
He was the most adorable man. Seriously. He told jokes and laughed at them, himself. A woman asked this very sweet question about how to raise her new infant daughter to be a joyful and mindful person. After a moment of quiet thought, he said, in his broken English, "You asking wrong person. I am monk. I think if I spend a few hours with children, it's okay. But more than that, (he shook his head) I don't know." And he laughed heartily and his little funny.

In addition to being raucously funny, he also exudes this peaceful presence. He moves slowly and deliberately. He speaks about creating peace in oneself, which spreads, by proxy, to others. He also recognized that there are many religions. He said that it's not possible to say that one is the "best" religion if speaking about many people, but only if speaking about an individual. He likened it to applying different medications for different illnesses. This medication is the best for that illness. This other medication is the best for another illness. Similarly, this religion is best for that person. This other religion is best for another person. It was beautiful. A perfect Jesus Birthday present.

Then, my friends and I went to a new restaurant with a California twist on comfort food and an amazing Zinfandel. Mmmm. I love birthdays.

Birthday Hiking

Bryan and I went hiking up to see Turtle Rock for my birthday weekend. We ate lunch on a big rock and took in the scenery.

At Least It's Not a Finger

I just ate most of a CostCo refrigerated, organic burrito. It was quite delicious until the second to last bite, when I encountered a flat piece of turquoise rubber about the size of two pencil erasers. It was smooth on one side, appeared to be textured on the other, and slightly concave. Euiw. I found a piece of rubber glove in my organic burrito!

Inconvenient

We're in the middle of a landlord-ordered emergency waterheater replacement at my apartment right now. Apparently, it was leaking onto the people below.

Here is a list of things that I just thought of to occupy the time while they shut off our water for the next several hours:

*hand wash some underthings I've been meaning to get to
*water the plants
*finish cleaning the breakfast dishes
*fill the water filter pitcher
*shower
*have some tea

How did I ever survive in a third world country, you ask?
Honestly, I have no idea.
