Big Stuff People

Okay, I swear this blog will go back to being about mundane things I see in life. However, I noticed something in my kitchen the other day and it made me want to take a photo.

Bryan is a big man, and he likes his food big.

Engaged

Yes, I'm getting married, but technically, I wasn't engaged until today because the ring was being made. My man took me down to the beach saying we should look for a pretty rock (because I love to rock hunt). Little did I know, he meant this one.

Adding to my old post. The whole story is that Bryan took me down to the beach to look for "a pretty rock". After several moments, he saw an old wave break made of concrete jutting a short way into the water. He pointed it out, and like a puppet doing his bidding, I went immediately out onto it to enjoy the sound of the waves. He followed and said, "I have something for you." (Me: OH! Ring time?) He handed me a folded note. (Me: Um... okay. Treasure hunt?) The note was actually a letter I had sent him back when we were first starting to consider moving our friendship in a more romantic direction. It was primarily to show him how impish and clever I am. He had kept it, anticipating from the start, I imagine, that we might find ourselves in this situation at some point in our futures.

While I was reading the note and figuring all of this out, he was getting (carefully, remember we're on a narrow, concrete wave breaking thing) onto his knee. He said, "I love you. I've been waiting for you my whole life. Will you marry me?"

To which I said, of course, yes. And cried a little bit about how perfect the moment was. Oh, and later, when he showed me the certificate for the diamond, I noticed it was certified on December 13, 2005 (same day I wrote him the letter). And that's pretty much the whole story. :)

Desert Visitor

My dad came to stay with me for a few days last week. We went to Berkeley to see Stephen Hawking give a talk on the origin of the universe and then did some hiking in Half Moon Bay. Retirement is good.

Bryan and I built a fort in the living room. Yes, we are 11 years old.
